Barley Wine
Barley wine is the same as barley wine. And also as Quadruple beer. Barley wine is made with grain and is therefore just a type of beer. But its high alcohol content is more like wine. The color of barley wine can vary greatly. The taste of this strong beer is mainly bitter and hoppy.
So barley wine is not wine, but why is it called that? It has to do with its high alcohol content. It is closer to the amount of alcohol in wine than in an average beer. So why is it beer? Because it is made with grain instead of grapes.
The alcohol content of barley wine is high. It ranges from 8.5% to as high as 12%. Like some wine, barley wine can be aged. The drink then gets a so-called flavor evolution. Actually, this is a controlled deterioration of the taste, but some beer drinkers like it better than the fresh original.
